What is a hemorrhoid?
A hemorrhoid is a muscular cushion present in the anal canal in all people. There are three individual cushions and they play an important role in maintaining continence.
How do Hemorrhoids cause symptoms and problems?
Enlargement of the normal cushions through exertion, pregnancy and other factors can lead to symptoms such as bleeding, itching, discomfort, external swelling over the veins that decompress the cushions, fullness and difficulty getting clean following a bowel movement.
